“Customer service is a direct reflection of the internal culture of an
organisation” – that’s according to business strategist Mike Clark
one of the keynotes at the ISSA Cleaning & Hygiene Expo.
Mike was among an impressive lineup of speakers who presented
at the highly successful trade show back in May (see our full
coverage of the event from page 10), and his advice still resonates now, especially for this
month’s issue of INCLEAN which focuses on HR and education.
With customer service at the heart of every business in the cleaning industry, the
importance of company culture, and its influence on staff, and subsquently the customer,
shouldn’t be overlooked. HR plays a large part in forming and developing a company’s
culture and in this month’s edition we have a variety of contributors who cover an array
of management and employment topics – from how to hire the right person to tips on
building and growing a positive culture.
The HR focus is also timely given the recent media reports of alleged underpayments
of cleaners by some major contractors. Making sure employees are not only treated
fairly but paid accordingly, and that the employer and employee both understand
worker entitlements, is also covered in this month. Our HR focus starts on page 22.
We also put the spotlight on education with articles on training techniques, leadership
and how-to’s including using disinfectants properly. GECA discusses the need for
‘greener’ classrooms and looks at some of the ways to manage educational environments
to ensure students and staff are at their healthiest and most productive.
Education was also the centre of focus for Jena Dyco’s Restoration Conference and
Expo, held in Melbourne in May. The three-day event also included a highly educational
one-day Mould Forum. See highlights from the conference from page 43.
On a separate note, the BSCAA recently announced some changes to its board.
Carolyn Journeaux, previously executive director of BSCAA Victoria, has taken over
as national executive director from Barbara Connolly, and Debbie Delimitros has been
appointed the new president of BSCAA NSW. The INCLEAN team congratulates
Carolyn and Debbie on their new positons and we wish Barbara and outgoing director
Brian Ellems all the best!
